Who is the Casting Director?

“Casting” means the task of searching for and selecting the most suitable performers for the roles in a script, after having been commissioned by a film, television or advertising production.
The Casting Director is the professional figure in charge of presiding over this search and selection process.

The Casting Director’s work therefore requires extensive technical skills (knowing actors, knowing how to assess their abilities and potential, estimating their value from a market as well as an artistic perspective), combined with a sense of creativity and a broad psychological and artistic sensibility.

The Casting Director works closely with the director, showing an ability not only to interpret the latter’s wishes but also to suggest innovative solutions, and works in collaboration with the producers, whose commercial requirements he/she must understand and respect.
