Italian Union of Casting Directors

The U.I.C.D. (Italian Union of Casting Directors) is a non-profit trade association that brings together more than 60 Casting Directors and Casting Assistants from the film, theatre, television, advertising and new media sectors.
The association aims to promote the development, qualification and upholding of the principles underpinning the profession.

The U.I.C.D. was set up based on the desire of a large group of professionals with extensive experience to meet and organise discussions in order to better define the profile of the profession, improve its methods and tools and discuss possible future developments, while also looking to strengthen relations with foreign colleagues with whom we are increasingly called upon to collaborate.
Its creation also stemmed from a strong desire to work for the recognition of the figure of the casting director among industry professionals and anyone interested in the world of entertainment in general. Lastly, it emerged from the desire to illustrate and explain more about what our work consists of to anyone who is considering the profession or wants to learn more about it.

When was the UICD set up?

The Italian Union of Casting Directors was established in Rome in 2015, although prior to its establishment there was already a de facto association that encompassed most Italian casting directors and casting assistants.
In fact, in 1996 the UIC (Italian Casting Union) was founded, in which a small group of courageous and enterprising pioneers were joined over the years by many other talented colleagues, thus demonstrating the ways in which the profession was becoming consolidated. *
The UICD today, following in the footsteps of the old UIC, is continuing along the path of consolidation in the sector with many initiatives, projects and new common goals.
